BOGO Hollywood - Bye Matt, Get Leo Too

Oh Hollywood, glorious Hollywood. Never should you proclaim you tried. There is always evidence that you might actually be doubling down on the contrary.

No people of color? Really. Yet you honor two rather pure, white, beloved guys who get nominated for making the same movie! Centuries apart in their focus, perhaps, but still: white guys get a bogus BOGO recognition?

Have you not noticed?

Try this. In general terms, here is the straightforward story you wanted to tell us:

A guy, trapped by the beast of circumstances in a harsh and ghastly (gas-less?) environment, fighting to overcome abandonment and revengeful forces to get home.

Okay, here are more specific details for those who aren’t so sure. Says the InterWeb of the true colors of these tales of white guys overcoming their challenges:

THE REVENANT: “While exploring the uncharted wilderness in 1823, legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) sustains injuries from a brutal bear attack. When his hunting team leaves him for dead, Glass must utilize his survival skills to find a way back home to his beloved family.

THE MARTIAN: “When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home....”

Didn’t notice, huh? Two for one? BOGO celebration of the purest of a kind?

They are the same movie, and they serve to make the same kind of heroes out of the same kind of actors, IMHO.

Perhaps the stars might accept that they did well and make room for two others …? To me, that could should would do more than any boycott to ensure that we know the actors themselves have noticed that they are on the same mission for style and fairness. They (and you, Hollywood) can afford it.

Thanks for sharing. The idea is for me to motivate you (and others) to do something with good ideas. Some are mine, some belong to others; all belong to the world of change.
